Founded on October 12, 1901, and still active nowadays, it is considered the first European non-choral association devoted to the study and dissemination of the work and ideas of Richard Wagner. Key aspects of its success were the initial promotional activity of Joaquim Pena and the enthusiastic reception by figures such as Josep Maria Ballvé, Lluís Suñé and Amail Prim. The main aims of the association were the literary, musical and philosophical study of Wagner's works and its performance by Catalan artists, as well as the dissemination of the composer's aesthetic ideas and the translation of the dramas into Catalan. During the 1900s and 1910s, the organization had a significant dynamism, and achieved milestones such as turning off the lights at the Gran Teatre del Liceu during the performance of Wagner's operas or the entire performance of the tetralogy in 1910. The association also promoted publications and conferences.
