Biografia

Violinist, pedagogue, composer and conductor

Belgian violinist. He was a member of the Ysaye Quartet and later founded his own string quartet. In 1895 he settled in Barcelona where he introduced 19th-century chamber music repertoire to Barcelona audiences and influenced the teaching of the violin. He founded a trio with Pau Casals and Enric Granados.

The was founder of the Societat Filharmònica of Barcelona. In this city, together with Artur de Greef, he performed Beethoven’s complete sonatas for violin and piano. He returned to his native country where he was a professor at the conservatories of Brussels and Liege. Marià Perelló and Antoni Brosa were among his disciples
