A disciple of Pau Casals, he later studied composition in Paris with Nadia Boulanger. Started as a child prodigy, in 1939 he took advantage of the invitation of the Chilean government to premiere a concert by Adolfo Allende to stay for many years in Latin American countries. He settled in Argentina, where he worked with Erich Kleiber, in Cuba, where together with Gaspar Cassadó he founded the Sociedad de Música Contemporánea, in Brazil and Ecuador.

He returned to Barcelona in 1967 where he conducted the Gran Teatre del Liceu Orchestra and promoted different chamber ensembles. Professor of cello at the Liceu Conservatory, he composed some works such as songs and a string quartet.
