Biografia

Composer, conductor and violinist. He began his studies with his father. In 1906 he joined the Municipal Music School of Barcelona, where he studied with Lluís Millet and Antoni Nicolau. In 1912, he founded the Renaissance Quartet (1912-1921) with whom he performed all over Europe. From then until 1934, he performed at the Granja Royal and collaborated with the Pau Casals Orchestra and Orfeó Català. He conducted the Orquestra d’Estudis Simfònics (1924-1935), the Madrid Symphony Orchestra (1933) and the Banda de les Milícies Antifeixistes. In 1944, he created the Barcelona Municipal Orchestra, which he conducted in more than 700 performances. In 1923, he was appointed violin professor at the Municipal Music School and in 1945 professor of Conducting at the Conservatori Municipal. From 1921, he devoted himself to composition and authored pieces such as Vistas al mar (1921), the sardana for orchestra Empúries (1926), the comic opera El giravolt de maig (1928) and the comic opera cycle for voice and piano La rosa als llavis (1936). In 1961 he premiered L'Atlàntida by Falla.
