Composer i Performer

Guitarist and composer

He studied drawing at Llotja and guitar with Magí Ferrer. Later studied at Escola de Música de Barcelona with Joan Baptista Pujol and Francesc Tàrrega. In 1904, following a successful tour of the Peninsula, he moved to Paris, where he devoted himself to private teaching and concert performances, and where he met Ravel, Albéniz, Viñes and Debussy, a professed admirer of Llobet’s work. In the 1910s, thanks to his reputation in France, he undertook different tours in Europe, Latin America and the United States. He enjoyed a great success in Argentina, where he published his own music and founded a duet with his student María Luísa Anido. He returned to Barcelona in the early 1930s. He is considered the most prominent international guitarist of his time and the father of the Catalan guitar school both for his skills as a performer and for his pedagogical task as well as for his compositional output ―especially the guitar arrangements of popular songs and transcriptions of Albéniz and Falla.
